Andre Ward survived an awful second-round knockdown to grab the bound together light heavyweight title from Sergey Kovalev through razor-thin and maybe questionable consistent choice on Saturday night at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
Scores were 114-113 no matter how you look at it for Ward.
Cheap seat Report’s informal scorecard had it 116-111 for Kovalev.
Ward (31-0, 15 KO) appeared on out of the battle early when he got a gigantic right hand and was put on the deck in the second round. He rose and appeared to be on shaky legs before surviving the round and amazingly working his way once again into the battle.
